We recently caught up with U.S Sports Scholarships client, former Ipswich Town Women’s star and current Middle Georgia State University student-athlete Miagh Downey. Miagh shared with us her experiences from her time in the States so far as well as her plans beyond graduation.

Can you tell us about the experience you have had on your scholarship in the States?

My experience so far in the states has been amazing. I can honestly say it is the best decision I’ve made. It has provided me with the opportunity to play the sport I love everyday at a competitive level and also to study a degree in Business Management concentrating in Accounting. Going to the states was something I dreamed of doing since I was a kid and I have absolutely loved my freshman year. There has been highs and lows and ultimately it does challenge your strength and mentality but I have made some friends for life and had a successful first year.

What has been most memorable to you about your experience?

One of the most memorable experiences was when my team won on penalties to get into the final 4, the rain was pouring down and the pitch was like a mud bath. We won on penalties and it was an amazing feeling!

Another memorable moment was going down 1-0 against a team in our conference and then I scored to make it 1-1 which took it to over time and then I scored again in double over time to win the game. All the subs came running onto the pitch! You can’t beat a double over time winner!

Can you tell us about your plans for the future beyond graduation?

My plans for the future are to just enjoy the next three years and see where it takes me. I have thoroughly enjoyed my first year at Middle Georgia State University and am so excited for my next three years in the states. There is definitely more to come. I’d also quite like to do a masters. I’m studying Accounting and would really like to be an Accountant when I finish my scholarship!

What advice would you give to someone who is considering a sports scholarship?

I think that it is the perfect way to combine the sport you love and the opportunity to obtain a degree at university. Although it will be challenging you will definitely gain so much from it. It really is the opportunity of a lifetime and you will meet friends for life and make memories for life.

It will be a big step and a big change in life but definitely one worth taking. You get to play the sport you love everyday in a competitive environment and at the end of the four years walk away with a degree. On top of that you will have so much fun. I advise anyone with this chance to take it, so if you’re interested then get in contact with US Sports Scholarships and apply now! They have helped both me and my brother to be over in the states living our dreams.
