We recently caught up with U.S Sports Scholarships client and current Georgetown College student-athlete Jake Mckettrick. Jake shared with us his experiences so far from his freshman year in the States as well as his plans beyond graduation.
Can you tell us about the experience you have had on your scholarship in the States?
My experience over in the States has been nothing short of amazing. Playing football every day was always a dream so to be able to do so with such a good group of people makes my experience even better. It’s an once in a lifetime opportunity to do what you love whilst furthering your academic side by working towards a Bachelor’s Degree, so I really have nothing to complain about. I’m happy to still have 3 and a half more years left over there.
What has been most memorable to you about your experience?
My most memorable experience so far is making my debut for the team. To come onto the pitch hearing your name being announced makes you realise how far you’ve come and I’ll never forget it.
Can you tell us about your plans for the future beyond graduation?
My plans aren’t set in stone as of yet, but ideally I would like to graduate with a Major in Exercise Science and a Minor in Spanish, and then hopefully going on to Graduate School if all goes well. I do know for sure that I will be carrying on playing football whether it be over in the States or anywhere else.
What advice would you give to someone who is considering a sports scholarship?
My advice would be to realise how many opportunities you can get from making this move. Everyone has their doubts about leaving home but it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. You become so much more independent and the people you meet from a variety of different countries are people you’ll be friends with for life. I couldn’t recommend it or U.S Sports Scholarships any more.
Think you have what it takes?
