Can you tell us about the experience you have had on your scholarship in the States?
What has been most memorable to you about your experience?
My most memorable experience so far was reaching the NAIA national championship in 2018 in Irvine, California. To be involved in games with such high stakes was a great experience for me. We won our last 16 game which meant that we advanced to the quarter-finals of Nationals. Unfortunately, we lost in the quarters to the college, who went on to win the whole championship. Now that I have been once to Nationals, I hope that I get to play there again.
Can you tell us about your plans for the future beyond graduation?
My plans for the future are widely open. I hope to graduate with a Major in Business and Accounting, and a minor in Economics, therefore I have many options with regards to employment. Also, with a student visa it allows you to explore an internship in the States in your field of study, so I might utilise that before I make any large decisions. I do know for sure that I will continue to play football beyond my graduation.
What advice would you give to someone who is considering a sports scholarship?
Be prepared to take a big leap of faith. Leaving your home country to somewhere new is rather daunting, however it is exciting at the same time. A sports scholarship is a huge commitment of time and effort, as your studies and education are just as important as your sports ability. My advice would be that if you have ability and the grades to be offered a scholarship, you should most certainly take it and jump at the opportunity. The life skills, friends, education, and sports experience will only positively impact your life in the future.
