Matthew began his playing career at Colchester United FC, where he was a scholar until the age of 19. Seeking a new opportunity, he earned a scholarship via U.S. Sports Scholarships, joining NCAA Division II side, Coker University in South Carolina.

Making an immediate impact, he helped lead Coker to a SAC Tournament Championship in his first season. His final year was even more historic as he played a pivotal role in Coker’s SAC Regular Season Championship win and helping the team reach the Sweet 16 of the NCAA National Tournament—the furthest any program at Coker had ever advanced. Over his collegiate career, he started 72 games, captaining the side and contributed to breaking multiple program records.

His individual accolades reflect both his athletic excellence and academic commitment. He was named:

•Coker Male Athlete of the Year (2024–2025)
•SAC Defensive Player of the Year (2024)
•Scholar Athlete of the Year (2024)
•Scholar All-American Team
•All-American Team
•All-Region
•Three-time All-Conference Selection

Whilst still playing at a high semi professional level, Matthew is committed to guiding and supporting the next set of athletes who look to explore the opportunity of being a student-athlete in the United States, as it was a life changing experience for him.
